NEW PAINTINGS BY CARYS EVANS
Carys Evans was born in Carmarthen in 1955. She was a primary school teacher for many years before studying for a degree in Fine Art at Swansea Metropolitan University. Since graduating in 2013 she has devoted herself full-time to painting, from her base in Elysium Studios in central Swansea.
Starting in 2013 she exhibited her work in mixed shows in Swansea, followed by a joint show in the Kooywood Gallery in 2015. In the same year one of her paintings was selected for the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition. Her first solo exhibition, held at the Ceri Richards Gallery in Swansea in 2016, proved highly successful. Individual works are in private collections in the UK, United States, Australia and Ireland.
Carys works in several media, including oil, acrylic, pastel and household paint. Her paintings are figurative. They capture quiet, overlooked, unheroic moments of domestic life. But they also pose penetrating, unanswered questions about the thoughts and relationships of the people who inhabit them.
