Lisa Krigel

Since arriving in Wales from New York in 1999 Lisa embarked upon the making of a body of work that investigates themes that relate to contemporary culture, weaving her own idiosyncratic take on things, with what are often quirky and unusual sources. She utilises a wide variety of ceramic processes and mixed media in order to create sets or a series of pieces that ultimately inform or tell part of a story, engaging subjects as diverse as the Figure as Object, Cardiff Nightlife and Wedding Stories. These themes are always linked by an element that becomes the focus from one series to the next.

The work shown here is part of the ‘Eating Sweets’ series that forms a collection of brightly coloured, bejewelled porcelain teapots that were developed from an incident with a couple of insects in a popular Welsh sweet shop. These pieces were just the beginning of a story that examined various cultures and their relationship with food and the simultaneous decay of both.
